Radial Shockwave Therapy

Radial Shockwave Therapy is a modern treatment modality that is available at Gladesville Healthcare to treat tendinopathies, muscular, ligamentous and other soft tissue injuries. During this quick procedure, a high-intensity acoustic sound wave is transmitted through a probe that is placed on the skin of the affected area. The benefits observed from Radial Shockwave Therapy include increased blood flow and metabolic activity of the site, a reduction or reversal of chronic inflammation, breakdown of scar tissue and calcium deposits in certain injuries and stimulation of collagen. These benefits collectively create an optimal healing environment for many chronic injuries that we see in practice.

Radial Shockwave Therapy has been clinically proven in the literature to be a safe treatment option for a number of conditions including:

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Upper and Lower Limb Tendinopathy (including Achilles, Patella, Tibialis Posterior, Rotator Cuff, Gluteal tendon pathologies)
  • Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow)
  • Medial Epicondylitis (Golfer’s elbow)
  • Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
  • Calcific Tendinosis
  • Shoulder Impingement Syndrome
  • Bursitis

Gladesville Healthcare is proud to be one of the only clinics in the area with access to a Radial Shockwave Therapy facility and generates referrals from many local GP’s, allied health professionals and clients who have experienced the benefits themselves. All of our podiatrists, chiropractors and physiotherapists are experienced and trained in its use.

Typically each Radial Shockwave Session takes between 2-3 minutes per region and each session is spaced roughly one week apart. Approximately 80% of all patients reports positive improvement within 2-3 sessions when used in conjunction with other physical therapy treatment protocols such as soft tissue massage, dry needling, stretching, functional rehabilitation programs and education.

Have any questions? Please feel free to give us a call or make an appointment to discuss if Radial Shockwave
